Technical requirements for U-verse Internet
Customers looking to subscribe for U-verse internet must meet up to certain requirements. The first is that U-verse be available in the customer’s area of residence. AT&T provides a simple availability checker tool to verify this. Because U-verse is not yet deployed in all states (and cities in states it’s already deployed in) interested customers may have to use AT&T DSL or subscribe to competing services with a presence in that location.
U-verse runs on VDSL technology and is compatible with copper wiring or coaxial cabling used in older homes. U-verse uses either one of Fiber to the Node (FTTN) or Fiber to the Premises connections depending on the area. For FTTN areas the presence of a VRAD should imply the availability of U-verse for its residents. FTTP connections come directly from the Central Office and terminate at the customers telephone box.
Equipment and Installation
U-verse internet equipment includes a AT&T U-verse gateway, Total Home DVR, additional set top boxes for every TV included in the package, wiring. Subscribers who opt to include High Definition on their U-verse subscriptions will pay an additional $10 per month fee. Installation is carried out by qualified AT&T technicians, although, AT&T serves a self-installation kit for customers who choose to install themselves. Technicians are able to get connections up and running a lot faster with most customers reporting anywhere from 3 to 12 hours.
Credit Requirements for U-verse
Applying customers with bad credit may be required to pay a non-refundable deposit to service their bills over time. AT&T acknowledges credit requirements apply for U-verse subscriptions and some applicants may be turned down due to bad credit. Wikipedia reports a $450 non-refundable deposit for customers with bad credit with $5 deducted every month until the customer recovers the full deposit.
