The difference between AT&T U-verse Internet and AT&T High Speed DSL Internet

AT&T U-verse internet and DSL internet also from AT&T are two broadband internet solutions available to consumers in the US. U-verse is a newer service compared to AT&T’s DSL and it has been making inroads trying to convert DSL subscribers to U-verse. For many subscribers the very fact that U-verse offers three separate services (Digital HD TV, broadband internet, and Voice) in one is a reason to upgrade, others may look for additional benefits u-verse holds over their existing DSL connections.

Price Comparisons

While U-verse is great for integrated billing on three highly essential home services, the high speed DSL internet focuses solely on providing broadband internet connection. Without digital television or voice included, DSL has to be cheaper starting out at $15 per month and an after-rebate rate of $20. On average AT&T DSL is also significantly slower than U-verse although you can still do online gaming, or stream videos, but more advanced internet applications like video conferencing would be shaky at best. The highest download speed available on AT&T DSL broadband is around 6Mbps downstream.

Come to U-verse where the starter bouquet (for TV, Phone and Internet services) goes for $99 per month with a Pro package that delivers 3Mbps downstream. Customers who need faster speeds can get up to 12Mbps by upgrading to U-verse Max. The entire U-verse internet package is highly flexible letting customize all three services to suit your needs.

Benefits of U-Verse

U-verse provides digital television, VOIP and broadband internet all-in-one package. This in many cases leads to savings especially since you only get to subscribe to just one service to get all three. Where all three services are available, U-verse is substantially cheaper to install and maintain compared to having three separate providers. Here are some U-verse benefits:

  • Up to 170 HD channels over 400 SD channels
  • Video Recording for up to 8 TVs
  • Faster Internet compared to DSL
  • Free Wireless Gateway
  • Voip solution included with unlimited calls to US, Canada and Puerto Rico
  • Benefits of AT&T High Speed DSL Internet

AT&T DSL delivers broadband internet speeds although not as fast as what U-verse has to offer. You’ll enjoy all the benefits of a speedy internet connection but without TV or Voice solutions included. Users may always arrange to subscribe with a competing service for TV (Comcast, AT&T DirecTV) and VOIP (Skype, Google Voice) but in this case it’s probably going to be more expensive compared to a unified service solution from U-verse.

However, DSL still offers its own benefits to consumers. U-verse is not yet available in many parts of the US so it still remains a viable option for consumers. Another use case scenario would be when a consumer is already locked to a long-term contract for TV or voice. In such cases a DSL internet subscription would be affordable and a reasonable option pending when such existing contracts expire.
