AT&T’s U-verse service offers integrated high-speed internet, voice over IP and IPTV services in the US. Using fiber optic FTTN and FTTP technology, users get the benefits of the big-three with bundled billing and lower monthly rates a major boost for potential subscribers.
AT&T U-verse Internet
U-verse internet is made available to computers in the home over Ethernet or coaxial cabling (whichever is already installed) plus the option to connect more computers, game consoles and other gadgets like an iPod Touch over Wi-Fi connection in the home. AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet Plan provides five tiers to choose:
- Pro – Download Speed: Up to 3 Mbit/s; Upstream Speed: Up to 1 Mbit/s
- Elite – Download Speed: Up to 6 Mbit/s; Upstream Speed: Up to 1 Mbit/s
- Max – Download Speed: Up to 12 Mbit/s; Upstream Speed: Up to 1.5 Mbit/s
- Max Plus – Download Speed: Up to 18 Mbit/s; Upstream Speed: Up to 1.5 Mbit/s
- Max Turbo – Download Speed: Up to 24 Mbit/s; Upstream Speed: Up to 3 Mbit/s
U-verse TV
U-verse TV delivers television using Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and H.264 (MPEG4) encoding. Each TV must be connected to a u-verse set top box which is connected to high speed internet connection. The U-Verse TV is available for up to 8 TV’s in the home. A single DVR can record 4 shows simultaneously with 2 in HD and the other 2 in Standard Definition SD. It also includes a large collection of video-on-demand titles catered to viewers of all ages. Users can search for videos by title or an actor’s name.
AT&T’s Total Home DVR runs Windows CE and features a built in picture-in-picture channel surf feature that works on any TV set. With this feature you can easily see what’s happening on other channels without missing out on a programme you’re watching. Online photos from your Flickr collection can also be browsed right from the TV screen.
U-verse TV starts out with up to 80 channels for U-family packages and more than 400 channels for U-450. Premium channels are available for an additional monthly fee.
AT&T U-verse Voice
The U-verse voice service works pretty much like you’d expect a home VOIP solution to. Users are allowed to use existing phone lines, although it’s possible to get a new one on request. AT&T includes thoughtful features that make for an enjoyable experience. Features like Locate Me will ring the home phone and up to 4 mobile phones on an incoming call. It’s easy to view call history, missed calls, right from the TV screen and you can even place a call from the TV or computer by choosing a phone number from call history or missed calls.
U-verse voice rates are integrated and they offer a bundled monthly service fee for unlimited calls to the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. Other features on AT&T U-verse are visual voice mail, call forwarding, and call barring.
