AT&T U-verse vs. Comcast Triple Play
AT&T U-verse and Comcast Triple Play happen to be heavyweights in the same niche category. They both provide voice over internet, IPTV with support for HD channels and of course high-speed broadband internet. But what are the differences between both services, if you are a consumer looking to know what separates one from another, read on to find exclusive details.
Comparing Packages, Deals, & Offers
Comcast Triple Play starts at $99/month over a 12 month period. A similar starter package on U-verse, the U-family package with TV, Internet & Phone also costs $99 per month but for a 6 month period. AT&T also includes 2 non-DVR receivers plus the single DVR available on the package. It’s worthy to point out that both starter packages don’t include HD content.
The highest packages available on U-verse is the U450 with up to 400 channels (includes premium channels) and their Max internet bouquet which maxes out at 12MB for downloads. This service costs $147 per month for 6 months and barely above $190 after. Comcast’s HD Premier XF package may cost anywhere from $160 to $180 depending on your area.
AT&T offers a $300 rewards card for consumers who make a minimum purchase of the U-family TV, Internet & Phone package.
Internet Comparison
There are no large differences between what AT&T and Comcast have to offer on their respective packages. What you’ll notice though is the little perks both companies have in place to keep consumers happy. While AT&T U-verse internet uses a customized AT&T Yahoo! Online Protection Suite for antivirus, antispam protection, Comcast includes Norton Security Suite based on 360 technology. Both internet security packages are available to users at no additional cast.
A substantial difference exists on the e-mail service where AT&T Mail Plus provides unlimited storage and up to 10 email accounts, while Comcast gives 7 email accounts each with 10GB storage.
Voice Comparison
Both services use Voice over IP technology with the ability to keep your existing phone number or have a new one. Both services miss out on a few features like priority ringing, and speed dial. While features like Locate Me and Do Not Disturb are exclusive to U-verse voice for now. Comcast also shines with its Repeat Dialing and Call Screening features.
TV Comparison
U-verse offers anywhere from 80 to 400 channels for the lowest to highest premium packages similar to the triple play service with more than 80 channels on the Starter XF and 200 digital cable channels on HD Premier XF. Both services support High Definition on the more expensive bouquets but a difference is that the DVR for u-verse service lets you record up to 4 shows simultaneously, while you only get to record three shows or watch one and record another with Comcast’s DVR.
All in all, your decision to go for U-Verse or Comcast’s Triple Play depends on the availability in your area, and personal preferences based on experience or reviews from friends and family. Both services are almost inseparable feature-wise but from a quality of service perspective, things may differ per area.
